Let's understand

Pelvic pain

Pelvic pain encompasses discomfort or pain felt anywhere in the lower abdomen, pelvis, or reproductive organs. It can be acute (sudden onset) or chronic (lasting more than six months), ranging from sharp, stabbing sensations to deep, aching pressure. Common causes include menstrual cramps, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, adenomyosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, vulvodynia, and bladder conditions. Chronic pelvic pain is often complex, involving multiple systems and requiring specialized evaluation to identify underlying conditions that may have been overlooked or misdiagnosed. Pain that significantly impacts daily activities, doesn't respond to typical pain relief, is severe during menstruation and unresponsive to medication, occurs outside of menstruation, or progressively worsens should be evaluated by a healthcare provider.
